I know it is a daunting prospect to start a novel but once you begin to write a few things down then it gets much easier - and will probably end up taking over your life! Start with writing out a synopsis of the plot for yourself. Just list the main action points in chronological order. Next pick a dramatic and fascinating scene to begin the book. Choose two or three main characters from whose point of view you are going to write the novel (everything should be 'shown' from their perspective- the book will be about what they hear, see, feel, smell, think and experience etc.) If you find you are struggling, sign up at a local writer's group for extra help and support - or join an online writing community. I recommend The Word Cloud: http://writing-community.writersworkshop.co.uk/

I hope this is helpful.

Best wishes, Karen CharltonSusannahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06674897755063990906noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1999659125625323494.post-75540232635166136502013-09-04T11:32:44.044-07:002013-09-04T11:32:44.044-07:00I know that I'm not a published author, Carol,...I know that I'm not a published author, Carol, but I would say if the story refuses to leave your mind, you should at least give committing it to paper a shot. I would love to turn it into fiction but have no clue where to start. Also would have to make a tremendous amount of changes to the story. This story has been sitting in the back of my mind for such a long time. Should it stay there?Carol N Wonghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06873206816286352639noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1999659125625323494.post-54643532548120990022013-09-04T05:29:35.877-07:002013-09-04T05:29:35.877-07:00Cathy - Thanks for sharing Karen's post with u...Cathy - Thanks for sharing Karen's post with us.

Karen - Thanks for giving us a 'behind the scenes' look at the way you used family history for your novel.
