You're also right that not everything needs to be spelled out for us to comprehend. I can get past the lack of quotation marks but what I can't get past is the lack of suspense in this story. Scene after scene of just conversational dialogue, most of which added nothing to the plot. This book is all bread and no meat. Does a great job setting the stage...but nothing happens on the stage. I honestly had to struggle to finish it.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10364283319690724427noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1999659125625323494.post-79635139351997693012015-01-08T10:02:50.136-07:002015-01-08T10:02:50.136-07:00This is a very good book, Margot, but unfortunatel...This is a very good book, Margot, but unfortunately I wasn't all that surprised to find out that many people in places like Amazon slammed it because they wanted their quotation marks, chapter headings, and all foreign words translated. Some things are worth just a tiny bit of extra effort, and Bad Country is one of them. Am I fortunate that it didn't take any extra effort for me to enjoy this book so much? Perhaps.Cathyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01774383554326288663noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1999659125625323494.post-50737398413490405692015-01-08T05:47:29.329-07:002015-01-08T05:47:29.329-07:00I love the sense of place just from your descripti...I love the sense of place just from your description, Cathy. There are those 'out there' lonely places, and sometimes authors capture them very well. And the plot sounds interesting too. That first line is a great hook. Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
