A Sneak Peek at My Next Giveaway...

Normally I trade many of the books I read through Paperback Swap. My membership (available only in the US) has allowed me to sample many authors I might otherwise not get a chance to. However, most of the books on my wish list take a very long time to come my way and I have a ton of credits built up, so I donated most of those credits and began thinking of other ways to share my books.

One of the first thoughts that came to mind was a giveaway. I'm thinking of calling it "My Recommended Shelf Giveaway." Want to see the books on that shelf? I know... silly question!

I thought I'd make the photo nice and big (and face the books in the right direction) so you wouldn't have to squint or turn your head to one side. (Anyone would think I was a pro at this title reading thing!)

There's a variety of books on that shelf, isn't there? Three cozies, two historicals, three police procedurals, two amateur sleuths, and five different countries. Evenly divided between male and female authors. Three of them are signed. Two of them made my Best Reads of 2016 list. Two of them I haven't read, but they come recommended by people I trust. Of the eight that I have read, yes, I would recommend them all.

These are the books that I will be giving away soon. Is one person going to be able to win all ten books? Nope. I want to share the wealth, but I'd love to have some input from all of you.

I'm thinking one book per winner, and I really don't want you to request to be entered in the drawings for all ten. Like I said earlier, there's a variety of books, and I want you to enter the drawings for the books you really, really want to read. Yes, I will be giving more detailed information about each title at the official beginning of this giveaway so you'll be able to make informed choices.

What do you think?  What's the maximum number of titles you should be able to try to win? Two? Three? Or just one? And just out of curiosity... what do you think of the selection of mysteries?

Please let me know in the comments here. Also feel free to make observations or ask any other questions you may have. If you have trouble leaving comments on my blog (and I know some of you do), send me an email-- kittlingbooks(at)gmail(dot)com.

I'll take all your input into account, and then it will be time for my biggest giveaway yet!  Thanks for your help!

  1. First of all, I think it's wonderful that you're so generous with your books, Cathy. And your selection's outstanding. And I like the idea of limiting the number of books anyone could try to win - say, perhaps, no more than two? It all sounds fantastic!

    1. Thanks, Margot. I'm really not being generous. I don't re-read books, so it makes no sense to keep them. Since this is the main place where I talk about them, I should share them here. :-)

  2. Thanks for offering the giveaway. It is a very good selection. I have two of them on pre-order. I want to add that after your review of the Sea Detective, I read it. I loved it and it is one of my best reads this year too. It is a book that I don't think I would have chosen if I hadn't read your review. The title would have made me think I probably wouldn't like it. Oh, back to the question-I would think 2 or 3 tries would be good.

    1. I'm glad you like the selection. I looked at that stack and thought there was pretty much something for everyone in it. :-)

  5. You really are generous, Cathy, whether you believe or not. :-)

I think entering for 3 of the 10 would be fair.

    And thank you!

  6. Hmm...I think that one should be able to enter for three books, but winning one would disqualify one from winning any of the others.

I think it also should depend on if you're giving away these all at once, or in a series of giveaways. If they're given away in a series, winning one should again disqualify one from winning another in that particular set of books. Just to be sure the maximum number of different winners occurs.

    1. Oh, since I just won a couple of books in your last giveaway, I'm disqualifying myself from this one.

    2. I do want the maximum number of winners, so the fact of winning one disqualifying you from winning any of the others definitely appeals to me.

...and I intend to give 'em all away at the same time instead of dragging it out. :-)

    3. You don't have to disqualify yourself, Pepper. There are TEN books after all. Maybe more, depending on the start date. :-)

  7. This is very kind of you. It's not only giving away books, but taking the time and spending the money on shipping.

I suggest being able to bid for 2 or 3, and agree that one person should win one book, so you can spread out the books.

And I also liked The Sea Detective very much, especially the sections about the islands and their history and the investigation about the grandfather's background and death. I've been so curious about how people lived on those islands, thinking about no heat, electricity, bathrooms, windows, the cold, snow, etc. Brrr. I shiver thinking about it, but also about the isolation. And how the residents spent their time.

Thanks for doing this. Now you've got me thinking about my books. I am giving them to Housing Works, a charity which subsidies housing for people with HIV and AIDS. And it's near my house.
