The Pip Pip Cheerio Weekly Link Round-Up

Denis and I had a fabulous time in the UK. The time went by altogether too quickly. I saw a lot, and I learned a lot, and I'm missing the new seasons of Downton Abbey and Doc Martin-- having seen the first two episodes of each over there. Waaa! Now I have to wait for them to cross the pond!

Fiction department at Harrods
I've been finding it difficult to get back into the swing of things-- especially sitting down at the computer and writing blog posts, but sorting through hundreds of photos is slowly getting me back into the routine. (Even though I think I've blown a fuse in my eyes.)

I've almost chosen all the photos I'll be using for my travel tales, and once I've done that, I'll start adding my commentary. That bit won't be difficult because I kept a journal of sorts while we were over there. In the mean time, here's a look at the fiction department at Harrods (yes, I had a bit of retail therapy in London), and some links that I've gathered. Head 'em up! Move 'em out!

►Book, Movies & Other Interesting Tidbits◄
  • Do eBooks earn more money at lower prices?
  • William S. Kirby talks about his favorite actor to portray Sherlock Holmes. I happen to agree with him, but you may not.
  • When it comes to book sales, what counts as success might surprise you.
  • Eighty years of Penguin Books
  • How to name your big important novel.
  • Harry Potter's Hogwarts acceptance letter is up for auction.
  • Have you read this irresistible story on blurbs
  • People don't seem to be reading the eBooks they buy anymore. (Then why am I still recharging my Kindle on a regular basis?)
  • The Martian proves that movies are now better than their books. (Picking your jaw off the table? So did I.)
  • I don't agree with this-- that the knitwear on Outlander is possibly the best part of the show-- but it's certainly caught my eye.
  • Chicago is turning its train system into a moving library.

►Channeling My Inner Indiana Jones◄

►Channeling My Inner Elly Mae Clampett◄
  • 26 photos of dogs and books (because cats tend to hog the spotlight).
  • 30 adorable baby animals.
  • Come on, people-- use the brains you were given! #BearSelfies have forced a Colorado park to close.

►I ♥ Lists◄

That's all for this week! Don't forget to stop by next Friday when I'll be sharing a freshly selected batch of links for your surfing pleasure.

Have a great weekend, and read something fabulous!

  1. Glad you had such a wonderful time, Cathy!! It's always tough to settle back in, though, I know that! Can't wait to see some of your 'photos. For now, thanks for the links, as ever. I've been following the story of the excavation of Sodom with real interest, so that link got my attention right away.

    1. It seems to be very difficult to settle back in from this trip. I don't know why!

  2. Gosh, I just started looking at these and ran out of gas. It looks like a terrific list of links.

If I were ever in solitary or locked up in a tower in Scotland, or in isolation for typhus, I would want my laptop (with a charger) so that I could read every single Friday link lists that I just haven't been able to get through because they are so good.

  3. Oh, Jeremy Brett, definitely!

An interesting set of links, for certain. And I can see why publishers might have a hard time selling ebooks at that price point. It might take a while for them to figure that out, though.

    1. They certainly do seem to be slow on the uptake, don't they?
