The Good Food Good Fun Weekly Link Round-Up

Whew! Make that double whew! One for the increased humidity of monsoon season that makes a sweatband my favorite article of clothing (not counting my swimsuit), and the other for six book reviews this week. Before you go scrolling down the page and tell me there are only five, I did a "Snack Bites" review on Kittling: Books' Facebook page. No creative math for me... at least this time!

Denis and I had our eyes checked. No changes in prescription for either of us, and as we walked out to the Jeep, we discovered our left eyes are both stronger than at our last check-up. This immediately made me think of the saying that couples tend to grow more alike as they age. I immediately mentioned that to Denis, capping my observation with, "Does that mean we're both going to be bald and bearded in a few years?" Denis shot back with, "Keep an eye peeled to see if your hair starts heading south!" And that instantly made me think of another of the "beauties" of aging: those occasional little chin whiskers that have started appearing on my chin. Growing older is not for the easily annoyed or the weak, that's for sure!

The highlight of our week was dinner at the Outback Steak House with friend and author Pepper Smith and her husband. After reading, enjoying and reviewing Pepper's books and interviewing her for Scene of the Crime, we've exchanged emails, and when Pepper let me know that they were spending a day in Phoenix during their research trip for her new book (Yessss!), we made arrangements for the four of us to have dinner together. We had so much fun! It's always so wonderful to discover that an "online friend" is even nicer in person, isn't it? I'd like to say more, but I've already run off the mouth way too much, and the links are glaring at me. Head 'em up! Move 'em out!

  1. Cathy - Good to hear your eyes and Denis' are holding their own. And you're quite right; ageing is not for the faint of heart... Thanks for those links. I'd always known there was something lovable about us bibliophiles...

  2. Back home and online again. Nicky and I had a great time at dinner. We really enjoyed meeting you and Denis. (And thanks for pointing us at the road where all the motels were hiding...)

Now, lots of thinking to do about the new book...

    1. I refrained from asking you more about the new book because I didn't want to seem too pushy, but what you told me really makes me want to read it!
