Denis is finally working a new shift at the airport which means that he now has three days off instead of one. Yes, we are both extremely happy about it, especially since it means that we have time to get out and about with our cameras. Last week we headed up to Black Canyon Lake high up in the White Mountains of northeastern Arizona for some cool Ponderosa pine-scented air and to say hello to some friends of ours before the snow flies and the trail leading to the lake is closed down.
Some friends at Black Canyon Lake aren't quite as friendly as the others. Take, for example, this Abert's squirrel that didn't seem all that pleased that I was heading in his direction to sit on a bench.... (Click on any photo to see it in a larger size in a new window.)
Crap. She saw me, didn't she? |
How high do I have to go to get away from her? |
Still not high enough, am I? *sigh* |
Yes, the squirrel eventually did get high enough in the tree to escape my eagle eye. Too bad, because I love these tassel-eared little guys!
Oh cute, cute, cute. Too cute. Sooooooooo cute.
ReplyDeleteThis reminds me of a poem I once wrote, about a similar critter:

Cheers!
Loved your poem, although it did take me four tries to get through the CAPTCHA to leave a comment. Blasted spammers.....
DeleteBear With Me...nice captures♫ Happy weekend♥
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing tail this critter has.
ReplyDeleteGuaranteed to keep him warm in winter! :-)
DeleteAround here, the squirrels never move slow enough for us to get a picture. Maybe your camera is just faster, but you caught some great shots. Here's Mine
ReplyDeleteThanks! It was a tall tree and a reluctant-to-move squirrel, so I think luck had a great deal to do with it!
DeleteThose tassel ears are so cute! But what I'd really like to do is scritch his little belly.
ReplyDeleteMe, too!!!
DeleteOh wow, I love squirrels. I haven't seen this sort before. I love his tufty little ears, and gorgeous fluffy tail. Such an attractive grey.
ReplyDeleteAbert's squirrels are only found in certain parts of the Western United States, primarily in Ponderosa pine forests if I'm not mistaken. I love squirrels, too, although I have a friend who hates them. (They keep getting into her house and trying to nest in it!)
DeleteCathy - Absolutely adorable 'photos! We don't actually have squirrels where I live, so when I do see them it's a treat. And that little guy looks as though he has a real personality.
ReplyDeleteWe only have ground squirrels here in the desert. Denis and I have to go up into the mountains to get our "tree squirrel" fix. I was so used to them growing up in central Illinois that I missed them for the longest time when I moved here.
DeleteI have never captured a squirrel doing "its thing." I enjoyed the dialogue between you and the squirrel...lol
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing...and here's MY SATURDAY SNAPSHOT POST
I must have some Doolittle blood in me somewhere. *grin*
DeleteThe squirrel here are considered a nuisance. They run across our pool cage constantly. Arrgggh
ReplyDeleteI have a friend who considers them more than a nuisance, but I probably would, too, if I'd had her experiences with them!
DeleteHe does have cute little ears. Too bad there's not way to signal that we're friends, not foes.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad there's not. Too many people lie. :-(
DeleteWhat a cute fella! Love that bushy tail.
ReplyDeleteBetween his ears, his tail, and his little belly, he's one cute critter! LOL
DeleteSquirrels make me smile. They're such curious little acrobats. Great photos!
ReplyDeleteSquirrels have always made me smile, too. I'm glad you enjoyed the photos!
DeleteHe is so cute and what unusual ears!
ReplyDeleteI wonder why those tufts are necessary? There had to have been a reason. Improved hearing? It's a mystery!
DeleteYou squirrel-chaser you! What cute photos!
ReplyDeleteLisa @ Alive on the Shelves
I've been outed...ack! ;-)
DeleteI love his ears!! We fostered a little squirrel for about 3 months and then were able to re-release him into the woods. I haven't looked at squirrels the same way since then :) Such characters!
ReplyDeleteI raised a baby squirrel using a doll bottle when I was a child. I named him Perry, and I don't remember why. When he was old enough, I released him, and he decided to live in the tree right outside our front door for a while. Then he found a mate and moved elsewhere, but I've loved squirrels ever since!
DeleteI like the ears on that little guy. I'm constantly arguing with the Fox Squirrels that hang out in my yard. I think they like the sunflower seeds more than the birds do. They can jump straight up five feet to get to that feeder.
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping that those little pigs we were feeding at Black Canyon Lake left a few crumbs for this little guy!
