  1. The colour of the soil there is amazing. And I *love* that third landscape photo. Fabulous. Gives a real flavour of Arizona. Thanks for sharing these.

    1. Arizona has a bit of everything for you from high mountains to low deserts. I've gotten used to brightly-colored soils on the trails that Denis and I have traveled. Sometimes the trails themselves are striped with various colors.

I well remember the first of our trips to Monument Valley. There's a dirt road that takes you on a partial tour of this park. When we got home, the car had sprays of bright orange mud on it. I wouldn't let Denis wash the car for ages. I loved that mud!

  2. reminds me of that book I read...whose name will no doubt come back to me soon...about a guy who worked as a fire watcher in a tower in the SW..he had to hike miles into it.

    1. I've never read the book, Caite, but I do remember reading a synopsis of it.

  3. Wow, it looks like it would be a pretty isolated job.

    1. It would be. Just think of all the reading we could get done!

  4. I wonder if my Uncle John was ever there. He was a fed. gov't. employee who was a fire fighter in national forests. Much braver than I for sure.

    1. Yes, it certainly does take a measure of courage to do something like this.

  5. Cathy - I just love that trail! It's so rugged and beautiful! I haven't been to that part of Arizona in a long time, and your picture is reminding me that I shouldn't wait much longer...

    1. I'm still finding wonderful corners of this state. I wouldn't live anywhere else!

  6. Arizona has a certain shade of blue in the sky that you just don't see much anywhere else.

  7. Great shots! Beautiful colours. I was trying to pick a favourite, but I can't. They are all great for different reasons. Well done!

    1. Thanks, Marie! It was one bumpy ride to get to that fire tower, but the view made it all worthwhile. Well, that and the fact that we had a pronghorn antelope pacing the Jeep for awhile!
