My Life As a Book, 2011

It's always a blast to join in with Pop Culture Nerd and her My Life As a Book series of annual posts. Each year the sentences change, and everyone's invited to fill in the blanks using only the titles of the books they've read that year.

Of course, I have to monkey around with the rules, even when there's only one simple rule.... (I've also been known to color outside the lines and to look outside the box.) What I'm going to do is fill in the blanks with the titles of crime fiction books from my to-be-read shelves. If it ain't a mystery, it's not filling in any of my blanks!

If you've never done this, I hope you'll give it a try. It is soooo much fun!  Here we go-----(I've included the authors' names at the end of each line.)------

One time at band/summer camp, I Started Early, Took My Dog. (Kate Atkinson)

Weekends at my house are The Sweet Golden Parachute. (David Handler)

My neighbor is Out Stealing Horses. (Per Petterson)

My boss is Hounding the Pavement? The Merry Misogynist? (Judi McCoy, Colin Cotterill)

My ex was On the Wrong Track? The False-Hearted Teddy? (Steve Hockensmith, John J. Lamb)

My super hero secret identity is (as) An Uninvited Ghost. (E.J. Copperman)

You wouldn't like me when I'm angry because (I'd have) Murder On the Mind. (L.L. Bartlett)

I'd win a gold medal in Whack a Mole. (Chris Grabenstein)

I'd pay good money for A House to Die For. (Vicki Doudera)

If I were president, I would (...me, president?) Have Mercy On Us All! (Fred Vargas)

When I don't have good books, I Don't Think Twice (and head for my favorite bookshop). (Wayne Johnson)

Loud talkers at the movies should be Dipped, Stripped and Dead. (Elise Hyatt)

Some of those were a bit difficult, while others had so many possible answers I had a hard time making up my mind!

  4. I may give this a go. But like you I'll probably have to stretch the rules to include books I've read last year and those scheduled for remainder of this year as I only read a book or two a week.

  5. Beth-- I'm rather fond of that one myself!

Kathy-- Now THAT I do not believe!

    Michael-- Thanks! :)

Leslie-- Makes sense to me. I stretched the rules because I don't have an easy way to cycle through the book titles I've read by year.

  6. It is indeed a fun meme. I have finally had time to check my books so mine is scheduled for tomorrow.

  7. Hahahahaha! Your last answer is an instant classic! I came up with these sentences one night right after I returned from the movies where I sat near, you guessed it, loud talkers. I wanted to vent my frustration so it's been quite satisfying seeing how much violence those talkers have been subjected to by other bloggers, too.

Thanks for playing and linking to me, Cathy!

  11. Dorte-- I'll be on the look-out!

PCN-- Isn't it great to be able to vent on something like that? Fortunately my husband and I tend to go to movies in the morning or early afternoon. Usually there's less than six people in the theatre, and none of us like to yak once the movie's started!

Peggy-- On my way to take a look!

Debbie-- I wondered if anyone would mention my skills at Whack a Mole! ;)

Bev-- I'm on my way to take a look!
