That seems to be a common activity among doves. The ones in my yard fall asleep in the platform feeder. The sparrows will land on them and wake them up, which is quite entertaining.
Barbara-- Yes, I sneaked up on him, took a picture, and moved on. He didn't move from his snoozing spot!

Leslie-- I'd like to see that myself. The mourning doves here are like that, but the white-winged doves are like their stunt doubles... they're much more active and not prone to naps. Perhaps that's because the mourning doves don't have a hunting season declared on them.
