A Weekly Link Round-Up Amid Spring Cleaning

Pardon me, but I've been lounging about on our new patio furniture instead of looking for links. I've got several, but not the variety that I'm used to posting. The pool water is almost warm enough to get in and sit in my favorite reading spot, and once that happens, Katie, bar the door! Summer is the most difficult time for me to blog.

Since I haven't won the lottery yet and gotten the pool heated so I can remain water-logged year round, I've turned my attention to cooking, cleaning up the yard, and going through my books. I'm determined to consolidate my books into the library and to use the wall of bookcases in the living room to display some of my antiques and other collectibles.

A'purging I will go...
I've gone through one bookcase in the library, and if you'll take a look at the photo to the right, you'll see how many books I'm purging from that one bookcase. Most of them will be donated, and I sincerely hope that they all make other readers as happy as they've made me.

That photo over there also shows my primary book mover. (You never know when an old office chair will come in handy!) The library is at the opposite end of the house. I started to carry the bags of books down here to the office, but I tweaked something doing yardwork last week and Denis keeps pointing a finger at me and saying, "Don't do it!" Since I've had my fill of doctors and hospitals for the next twenty years, I'm pretty much obeying his order (and my gut feeling-- ouch).

I've also been lining up more guests for Scene of the Blog, and in the weeks to come, you'll be able to meet book bloggers from Canada, Wisconsin, Iceland... who knows where I'll take you next!

Time to get to the links, eh? Let's do it!

  2. Cathy - Thanks for those great links, as ever. And I admire your determination to make create some order in your book collection. I love that use of the office chair to move books - creative!

  4. I always get a sense of satisfaction from book purging. Plus, it gives room that ends up getting filled again with (shhh!) books. :-)

I'm glad you are using the chair to move things. Don't want you to overdo and then have to recover from an "overdo" injury! LOL

  5. I find it interesting how many of the same books are banned across generations. I read The Catcher in the Rye as a teenager more than 50 years ago, and it is still on somebody's list to ban.

And I thought Brave New World was groundbreaking a generation or more ago too, and it is still on someone's list.

    Some things never change.

  6. Selene-- I really liked the book bed, too! Thanks for stopping by. :)

Margot-- I'm a former librarian, so my books have always been organized. I just want to have a much smaller collection that's actually contained within the room called the library... the one with wall-to-wall bookcases!

Kathy-- I'd be glad to, but what about the purging part??

Kay-- I *am* recovering from a bit of an overdo injury, blast it. *grumble*

Joe-- Isn't that the truth! :-/

  7. I´m spurting around my favourite blogs tonight, but of course I had to read "Would you sign my Kindle".

  8. Dorte-- Now when anyone says something about that, you can reply, "There's an app for that!"

  9. I am in the midst of organizing all my books and have even decided, like you, that it's time to part with some. If I want room for new ones, let's be honest, we all know I'm going to buy more, I'm going to have to get rid of some. Trying to not hold on to the ones that I keep meaning to get to..but know I probably won't.

Loved the article on the unsuitable books for teenagers. Of the ons I've read on the list, I totally agree with the author.

I live in STL and heard about the Indie bookstore cruise, but didn't sign up for. It sounds like a ton of fun though!

And..I must say that of the creepy homes, Mudhouse Mansion has my interest. It looks so cool..and it's haunted? Bring on the creep factor..I'm tempted to take a sleeping bag and camp out for the night.
