Weekly Link Round-Up

This week the crime lovers here at Casa Kittling have been enjoying the premieres of some of their favorite television series: Castle, NCIS, Criminal Minds, and Hawaii 5-0. There's more to come, and I've been spending pleasant evenings with my honey watching handsome folks catch the Bad Guys while I stitch away on my needlepoint. My honey (AKA Denis) also found an absolute gem of a UK television series, New Tricks, about three retired police detectives who are drafted to solve cold cases. Veteran British actors handle a very enjoyable blend of comedy and drama with aplomb. The first two seasons are available in the US if you'd like to give it a try.

Sheesh, you'd think I'd forgotten all about the links, eh? Here they are!

  1. New Tricks is fabulous! I'm in Canada and I used to watch that late at night on PBS or some other public access channel some years ago. Then not too long ago I found it on TV again one night. It would be great to watch it by the season!

  2. I have been participating in Reading With Tequila's Harry Potter Week! I had a guest post yesterday about Ginny Weasley and why I love her. The new trailer that came out is really wonderful.

And thanks so much for clueing me in about New Tricks. I love British crime shows and I'll add it to my Netflix queue. However, now that the new TV season is up and going my Netflix watching will slow down considerably.

  3. I love season premieres of our favorite shows. The new Hawaii 5-0was actually fun: I was afraid it would be a bust. I record the 10 p.m. shows because we can't stay awake so we have The Mentalist to start watching again and I love all the CSI's although the Miami one is a comedy to us. And Bones is a fav, and several others, but I hated Lone Star. All that has going for it is the star who has that George Clooney sexy shy grin down pat. Sorry, I'm rambling.

  4. Not a police series but my favourite US series is Supernatural - those guys ought to have a government health warning across their bodies lol.

  5. Ok, those bookcases are certainly interesting and I love the idea of the rafter bookcases. But, the others just won't work for me. Nope. Couldn't do it!

  6. A bookless library? No, you mustn´t scare me so much!

I must admit that I thought one or two of those bookshelves looked really cool, but I want *proper* shelves for my own walls with plenty of space for books and not much else.

  7. Nicola-- I'm so glad I found another fan! I've been finding myself going around the house singing the title song. LOL

Kay-- I saw your post about Ginny, and the new trailer has me chomping at the bit wanting to see the movie. Our Netflix watching slows down a bit, but we don't watch that many shows, so we are still able to fit in Midsomer Murder and the like. I hope you enjoy New Tricks!

Barbara-- I was very pleasantly surprised by Hawaii 5-0, and we love Bones, too.

Barbra-- This is horrible... I don't even know which series you're talking about!!! (I've now looked it up.) This isn't all that unusual. Our TV habits often mean that we don't catch a series until it's been on 5-6 years, but then it means we've got a lot of DVDs to watch. :)

    Holly-- You, too, eh?

Dorte-- Sounds like you and I want the same thing in bookshelves!

  8. Came bustling over here from the chicken house as soon as your post pinged into my inbox! Cathy, we love those shows too, but another you might like is the UK's Prime Suspect, starring Helen Mirren. It's quite gritty, very well-acted, sometimes a little drawn-out but so involving. Hope you can find it!

( A different kind of crime/poilice show I missed the first time it aired is a US one - NYPDBlue. I am just loving it.)

  13. Susan-- I watched Prime Suspect for the first season and probably half the second. For some reason, I never "took" to Mirren's character, although I love her as an actress.

    Elizabeth-- You're welcome! :)

    Amy-- Great! :)

Caite-- I would imagine there's someplace you can find them. Good luck!

RAnn-- Thanks so much for letting me know!
