Weekly Link Round-Up

What with one thing and another, it's been a while since I've done a Weekly Link Round-Up. Those of you who looked forward to the old round-up will notice there's a change: it's posted on Fridays now instead of Sundays. This is because I'll only be posting Monday through Friday now. I decided that I need my weekends free and clear to pursue other things.

There are quite a few things I've been saving for you, so I'd better get this show on the road!

Bookish News
  • I love these book jackets and bookmarks designed by Icoeye!
  • Erich Segal, author of Love Story, died this week.
  • Robert B. Parker, one of the masters of the mystery genre, also passed away this week. He died sitting at his desk working on his next Spenser novel.
  • Here's a fun article about The Bookery, a small independent bookstore in Pueblo, Colorado.
  • Things seem to be moving along in adapting Patricia Cornwell's Kay Scarpetta books for the screen. Fox bought the rights, lined up Angelina Jolie to star as Scarpetta, and now a writer has been hired.
  • Book pirates are a problem all over the globe, but they're particularly tough in Peru.
  • If you're familiar with Jasper Fforde's books, you're also familiar with Swindon. Did you know that Thursday Next brought a literary festival to town? Folks in Swindon refer to them as Fforde's Ffiestas.
  • Author Matt Rees's Top Ten Novels Set in the Arab World.
  • Read about the first bookmobile in the United States.
Here and There in the Book Blogosphere
  • Last month I featured Jena of Muse Book Reviews on Scene of the Blog. She's had many adventures and is recuperating at home.
  • Chris of Book-A-Rama has been talking about dystopian literature.
  • Aarti of Booklust wants to know about all these weekly memes.
  • If you haven't been following Kathy's weekly posts about her life in France during the early 1990s on Bermudaonion's Weblog, you need to remedy that immediately. This is a marvelous series, and I'm going to hate to see it end!

  2. Thanks! I particularly love the article about Swindon. Life imitates fiction! Also I think it's wise to take weekends off from being plugged in.

  5. Cathy. thanks so much for this feature. I've been lurking for months shame on me and really appreciate your work in gathering these for us.

I always find at least one goodie that doesn't show up on any of my readers.

Keep up the good work, and enjoy your unplugged weekend.
